This site was borne of my passion for movies, particularly French films. I have spent time in France and am fluent in the language, hence the “le”. The “snob” part, while of French origin, is not meant to intimidate, but rather an effort to reclaim the word from the pretentious, just as the gay community has done with the word “queer.” We’re all snobs; we all like what we like.
I hold a great deal of disdain for those critics, cinema studies professors, people who look and act like Graydon Carter, who talk down to the masses about FILM, making you feel stupid if you don’t understand what you’ve just seen or don’t know the academic importance of a particular director’s body of work. There’s a place for that discourse, but that place is not here.
I don’t see movies that don’t appeal to me. This means that you won’t be seeing anything on this site about big Hollywood blockbusters, horror films, propaganda documentaries about how the world is beyond hope, that aim to put me off eating cheeseburgers, and, no offense intended, Asian movies, among others. My posts won’t be limited to movies currently in release; there are many older films I would love to bring back to attention.
My sincerest wish is that you will enjoy this site, visit often, and consider me a reliable source for your cinematic selections. Allons au cinéma!
